Board Members

KEF gets strategic insights and direction from an eminent board with a wealth of accumulated experience in institution building and management.  The Board provides insights from the business, finance, education, and social sectors to help the Foundation reach its stated objectives.


Mr. Ajay G. Piramal

Mr. Ajay G. Piramal is the chairman of Piramal Healthcare, a leading pharmaceutical company and Kaivalya Education Foundation. Mr. Piramal holds a number of prominent positions in industry, including being a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Trade and Industry. He also has a keen interest in the social sector and is Chairman of both the Pratham India Education Initiative and Piramal Foundation. Mr. Piramal has a Masters in Management Studies from Bombay University and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.



Narayanan Vaghul

Mr. Narayanan Vaghul, Ex -Chairman of the ICICI Bank, is on the board of KEF. He has more than 45 years experience in the banking sector and is a board member for a number of leading firms, including Mahindra and Mahindra, Nicholas Piramal Industries, Arcelor Mittal and Air India. He is involved in a number of social causes. In addition to being a on the KEF board, Mr Vaghul is on the board of the Azim Premji Foundation and was formerly Chairman of Pratham India. He is a graduate from Madras University.



Debasish Mitter

Country Director of MSDF India Debashish Mitter leads strategic operations in the areas of education, employability skills and health.  Prior to MSDF, he spent 13 years with American Express in various leadership positions in their Delhi, Miami and New York offices and several years with Dowell Schlumberger, an oilfield services leader, in senior finance roles in the Middle East and the Far East.  Mr Mitter is a chartered accountant.




Aditya Natraj

Aditya Nataraj qualified as a chartered accountant and worked as a corporate finance consultant for KPMG before working in senior management and business development positions in Europe.
On returning to India, he took over and steered Pratham Gujarat into becoming the state’s largest educational not-for-profit.
He subsequently launched the Gandhi Fellowship and founded Kaivalya Education Foundation (KEF) in 2008. Aditya is an education expert for Monitor Consulting and a member of the Advisory Board of the Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work in Mumbai. He has an MBA from INSEAD in France.
